Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is it vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished, as the once vital voice of the verisimilitude now venerates what they once vilified. However, this valourous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose vis-à-vis an introduction, and so it is my very good honour to meet you and you may call me V."

I walked past the table at the cafe in Sydney. It's a poem written by Max Fatchen for the launching of a bookshop at that location. The bookshop is long gone, but the plaque and poem remain. I've seen it and read it before but for some reason my eye caught the date as I walked past it last week: November 16, 1982. I realised: November 16: that's today! That means the plaque was dedicated today, exactly 22 years ago! The name of the bookshop I am not sure, but one could imagine it was Blackwood Books, or BB, or 22.

I was requested to attend an important business meeting with the company I work for in LA. My website is, of course, "The Mer Files", so this plate caught my eye, to say the least.

Yesterday in town we walked past a parked car with the number plate BB-223-A. I pointed it out to the family: "check it out, BB, then the 22. And for a bonus, the 3-A is "3-1" or by my rules equivalent to "2-2". "

Of course, they all laughed and ribbed me.

But then the very next car parked in front of the first one had number plate BB-446. "Double the 22 you get 44", I noted. "How do you like that, BB-22, and BB-44, right next to each other".

"Why does the universe do stuff like that?" my son asked, shaking his head at his crazy father.

Then today driving to work I saw the car with numberplate BB-222-W, which, as followers of this site will recognise, is all 22, as W=V, V, or 22,22 as the 22nd letter.

The atomic number of titanium.
The number of letters in the Hebrew alphabet.
In the Kabbala, the number of paths between the sephiroth.
The number of yards in a chain. They have a big sign out the front with a logo which looks like this: W2W.

The letter "W" is of course not really a "double-u" at all, but a "double-V", and as V is the 22nd letter of the alphabet, I always think of it therefore as a "double-22".

So "W2W", to me, reads 22-2-22.

Directly across the road from this sign is a bus-stop. I noticed that the phone number is:

8231 2231

This is, according to the rules of the game (which I made up, and which include that 13 or 31 is an acceptable permutation of 22, as indicating a temporary division of 4 objects into sets of 1 and 3, or 3 and 1, before returning to the natural 2:2 division) reducible therefore, or translatable into, or substituted by 8222 2222. Even the 8 reduces to pairs of 22: 2+2+2+2; or 2x2x2: so in fact the phone number is nothing but a string of twenty-twos. The restaurant's name is T-Chow, pronounced T-Tchoo, shorthand, I now suspect, for TwentyTwo.

Dear .....,

You won't believe this one.

I was taken though the security issues today at work.

I had to choose a pin number - We may know the answer. Very early on in the course of our investigation, we stumbled upon what seemed like the solution to one of the central mysteries of Rennes-le-Chateau: “the 22 code.” Throughout Sauniere’s church and its grounds, the number 22 is repeatedly encoded into things. Words are purposely misspelled so as to contain twenty-two letters. The Tour Magdala has twenty-two crenels. The skull at the entrance to the cemetery has twenty-two teeth. Researchers have gone to absurd lengths trying to divine the occult significance of the number 22, producing obtuse “explanations” which in fact explain nothing at all. We wondered if a simpler, more straightforward approach might be in order. We had noticed that the church and its surroundings seemed to be infused with symbolism pointing towards duality, or indeed, redundancy. There were two Christs on Sauniere’s pulpit, and two baby Christs at the front of the church (one held by Joseph, the other by Mary. The name of the Tour Magdala is also a redundancy, as the name “Magdala” means “tower.” Why would someone with Sauniere’s sophistication name one of his key constructions “Tower Tower” unless it was an indication of something? Bearing this strange theme of duality in mind, we wondered if perhaps the 22 code could mean that we should look for two sets of two. Almost immediately, we could think of a number of such sets: statues and other constructions around the domain that seemed to mirror or echo one another on some symbolic level. Enlarging a map of the church and its grounds, we marked the sets of landmarks. We proceeded to draw lines through the points indicated, extending the lines across the map. When we were finished, we had five sets of lines, all of which intersected at precisely the same point.

A strange coincidence? Hardly. We had followed obvious clues that had been purposely left by Sauniere. We had interpreted evidence according to the simplest possible means: logic. And as it appeared, we had gotten results. From the very onset, we had felt instinctively that the mystery of Rennes-le-Chateau held something of far greater import than a mere treasure. Whatever lies buried beneath the spot on the map revealed by the 22 code holds the key to a great secret. We now believe that this location might very well conceal the entrance a tunnel system leading to the Cave of Treasures.

from: The Vessel of God

In the game of rugby, there are two 22-yard lines on the pitch. When repeated, it means double victory, or victory on the two planes (of Etheric and Astral). When tripled, it means victory on all three planes (Etheric, Astral and physical) - and is therefore a reference to complete initiation. The doubling of the V V is a mirror image - a reference to the fact that the Spiritual World is a mirror image of the material. In a different context, the triple, V V V, is one of the arcane greetings in initiate circles - perhaps here it is an indication that the highest level of initiation permits one to say farewell to the world."

- from The Zelator: The Secret Journals of Mark Hedsel; Edited by David Ovason

Kill Bill, the Quentin Taratino film, was said to be 222 minutes in length, as a consequence of which is was decided to split the movie into two parts. There seems to be no especial meaning to this word, fitting it for such a place. The meanings usually assigned, though prehaps proper enough, after a fashion, as man, angel, cherub, are really not proper to the term. The word comes from Kaph-Resh-Beth = C-R-B = C*r*b, or Carab, meaning prehensile, to seize, grasp, as with talons...; as substantive it means bird...it is the British word crab, that seizes with its circular pincers,; also the word grab, as closing your fingers on something.... The real value of the word is thought to be in its numerical value, which is Kaph=20, Resh=200, Beth=2, or in a total of 222. These cherubims were 10 cubits in height, and stood with outstretched wings of 5 cubits in length, each touching, as to each, the wall upon one side, and the tip of the wing of the other, in the midst.

- From The Source of Measures, by J. As the 22nd letter of the alphabet: V. Using the second letter twice: BB. Or in combination. VB. Victoria Bitter. My best buddy V...... B.... .

Or consider the numbers 31 and 13. Because they each add up to 4 (3+1=1+3=4), I think of these numbers as made up of four objects grouped together in piles of three and one, or one and three. So that by simply moving one object from one pile to the other, they can be transformed into two piles of two objects, or 22. So 31 or 13 are simple variations on 22. Now when I see 2213: it looks to me like 2222. Which is my phone number actually: XXXX 2213.

To be or not to be.

2 B or not 2B

22 or not 22.

One of the primary purposes of the Sepher Yetzirah was to elucidate how God designed, that is, engraved, carved, weighed, permuted and transformed, the 22 letters of the Hebrew Alphabet to form the foundation of his creation and how he combined these letters to generate the words by which "He depicted all that was formed and all that would be formed." The text states that God "placed them in a circle." In this regard, Rabbi Kaplan noted that:

The word for circle here is Galgal. This can also be translated as 'sphere' or 'cycle'. In a number of places in the Talmud, this word is also used to denote the cycle of events in the world. Later, the Galgal is depicted as king over time. [It] also denotes the mystical array of the 22 letters.

This Galgal, this mystical array of 22 letters that reigns as King over Time is none other than a primordial vision of God's Wheel "seen in a glass darkly." It is a prophetic glimpse of the final form of God's eternal Word by his ancient beloved people, the Jews. Its etymological relation to Golgotha is discussed in The Axis of the Wheel.

An Ancient Witness

The great Indian batsman V.V.S. Twenty-two. What is it about this number? From catch-22, to the 22 yards of a cricket pitch, to the 22 major arcana of the Tarot, twenty-two pops up in all kinds of interesting places. Moreover, it has this strange property: it seeks to appear twice, in close proximity, if it possibly can. I first noticed this at a house numbered 22 near where I live. On the kerb, in the usual place, the number was painted twice. 22 22. I began noticing other occurrences of the number 22 around, and found that, almost invariably, a second 22 was not far away. Once I started observing this phenomena, it began showing up all over. I've started this blog to track and record some of these.
